A Model for Rabies Surveillance, Prevention, and Control Performance of Village Health Volunteers Under the PBRI Model Concept

Abstract

This mixed methods research design with an exploratory sequential design aimed to create and evaluate the model for rabies surveillance, prevention, and control performance of village health volunteers (VHVs) under the PBRI model concept. There were 2 phases of the research process, as follows: 1) development of the model for rabies surveillance, prevention, and control performance of VHVs under the PBRI model concept with qualitative research. The participants were 36 VHVs. They were selected using the homogeneous sampling technique. Research tools include a brainstorming guide, a researcher, a research assistant. Brainstorming was employed for the data collection, after which the data were analyzed by content analysis, and the reliability of the data was verified by investigator triangulation; and 2) evaluation of a model for rabies surveillance, prevention, and control performance of VHVs under the PBRI model concept with quantitative research. The sample of 27 VHVs was obtained from the population census. The research tools is an evaluation form And data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.

The results revealed that the model for rabies surveillance, prevention, and control performance of VHVs under the PBRI model concept consisted of 3 components as follows: rabies surveillance of VHVs, prevention of rabies of VHVs, and control rabies of VHVs. The quality evaluation results of the model indicated that the overall suitability, usefulness, feasibility, and accuracy were at a high level (X=3.92, S.D.=0.80).
