Abstract

This analytical cross-sectional study aimed to examine oral health care behaviors and the factors influencing such behaviors among elderly Karen ethnic groups in Yang Piang Subdistrict, Omkoi District, Chiang Mai Province. Data were collected from May to July 2024. A total of 230 participants were selected using stratified and simple random sampling techniques. The research instrument was a validated questionnaire with reliability coefficients ranging from 0.72 to 0.86. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and stepwise multiple linear regression analysis, with the significance level set at 0.05.

The results revealed that overall oral health care behavior was at a moderate level. The regression model was statistically significant (F = 135.20, p < .001) and explained 63.70% of the variance (Adjusted R² = .64). Self-efficacy in oral health care (β = 0.58) and access to oral health information
(β = 0.45) were positively associated with oral health care behavior, while dental service utilization was negatively associated (β = −0.16). These findings can be used as a basis for planning oral health promotion programs, emphasizing self-efficacy enhancement, effective health communication, and the development of culturally appropriate services for sustainable oral health improvement in ethnic communities.
