Abstract
As the descriptive study, the major purpose of this study is to investigate the approaches of effective management of post-exercise muscular aches and pains in people in Muang district, Lampang province. For research methodology, a constructed questionnaire was conducted with 200 community dwellers aged 18 and above who exercised in Khaelang Nakhon Public Park, Nong Kra Ting Public Park, and Thailand National Sports University Lampang Campus. The samples were selected by the time frame sampling technique.
The results of the study revealed that the most common approaches of effective management of post-exercise muscular aches and pains through medicinal and non-medicinal treatments in Muang District, Lampang Province were found to be muscular stretching exercise (90%), medicinal use of healing balm (88%), and massage therapy (68%). It was found that the level of the severity of muscle pains and aches was only marginally affected by the approaches mentioned above. The rationale for selecting the approaches for management of muscular aches and pains post-exercise were convenience (self-administered) and the effectiveness in decreasing muscle pains and aches. The result from this study could be implicated for developing the model of post-exercise health cares, guidelines for information services and suggestions on how to manage muscle pains and aches using medicinal and non-medicinal approaches for preventing muscle pains and aches in order to provide their life security as well as to prevent possible complications.
