Oral health-related quality of life among elderly wearing conventional acrylic complete denture at Phen Hospital, Udon Thani Province

Objective : To examine the oral health-related quality of life among elderly individuals wearing full acrylic-based dentures and to investigate factors associated with it. Methods : This was a cross-sectional descriptive study. The study involved a sample of 121 elderly patients who had worn dentures for 6 months to 5 years and received treatment at Phen Hospital. Data were collected through interviews covering personal information, denture usage follow-up, clinical assessment of the dentures after use, and the Oral Impacts on Daily Performances (OIDP) index to assess oral health-related quality of life. Descriptive statistics and Binary logistic regression were used for data analysis. Results : Factors significantly associated with the OIDP index included returning to the dentist (AOR=0.29, 95% CI: 0.08–0.99, p-value=0.050), number of denture sets previously used (AOR=2.94, 95% CI: 1.14–7.59, p-value=0.026), lower denture retention (AOR=0.19, 95% CI: 0.06–0.64, p-value=0.007), and occlusion (AOR=0.18, 95% CI: 0.04–0.82, p-value=0.026). Conclusion : In conclusion, returning to the dentist, number of denture sets previously used, and denture quality in terms of lower denture retention and occlusion were significantly associated with the oral health-related quality of life. Regular follow-up and maintenance of denture quality are essential to promote oral health-related quality of life among elderly individuals wearing full acrylic-based dentures.
