The Effect of Psychoeducation Activity Focusing on Skill Training on Social Functioning of Schizophrenia Patients in Community

This research was a quasi-experiment design. The objective of this research was to comparethe effect pre-post of psycho education activity focusing on social skill training for schizophrenic patients in community and compared between of psycho education activity on social skill training for schizophrenic patients in communityfocusingon social skill trainingnormal.The sample consisted of forty schizophrenic patients receiving services in outpatient department, TumbomBanped Hospital, who met the inclusion criteria, were matched pair and then randomly assigned to experimental group and control group, 20 subjects in each group. The experimentalgroup received the psychoeducation activity focusing on skill training for six times composed of group activities 45-60 minutes twice a week to improve social functioning. Research instruments were: 1) The psychoeducation activity focusing on socialskill training, 2) The Communication interpersonal, and 3) The social activity.4) Recreation activity.5)Ability in self-care.6) Effective in self-care. 7)Employment/Career.The control group received the psychoeducation activity in normal. All instruments were validated for content validity by 5 professional experts. The Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient reliability of the two latter instruments were 0.94 and 0.90, respectively. The t-test was used in data analysis.
Major findings were as follows: The social functioning of schizophrenic patients in community who received the psychoeducation activity focusing on skill training was significantly higher than that before (p < .05), and the social functioning of schizophrenic patients in community who received the psychoeducation activity focusing on skill training was significantly higher than those who received regular caring activities (p< .05).
