THE EFFECT OF FAMILY HEALTH PROMOTION PROGRAM ON HEALTH BEHAVIOR AMOMG CATARACT SURGERY PATIENTS AND FAMILIES

Abstract

This quasi-experimental research aimed to examine effect of a family health promotion program with cataract surgery patients on health behaviors of patients and their families. The sample consisted of patients aged 60 years and over who were diagnosed with cataract treated by surgery. Post operative period not more than 1 month and family of 60 people divided into control group 15 patients and 15 families and the experimental group 15 patients and 15 families. The study was conducted from January to March 2021. Research instruments consisted of data collection was characteristics of patients and their families was. Health behaviors of cataract surgery patients and their families. The experimental instrument was a health promotion program for families with cataract surgery patients. Statistical analysis using analyzed Mann – Whitney U test. The results showed that patients who received family health promotion program in the experimental group had a mean of health behavior score higher than the control group with statistical significance (P<0.05) (Mann-Whitney U =12.50, p= <0.001). The families in the experimental group had a mean of behavior score higher than the control group with statistical significance (P<0.05) (Mann-Whitney U =63.00, p=0.040)
