DEVELOPMENT OF A NUTRITION MANAGEMENT MODEL BY A HEALTH LITERATE SCHOOL MECHANISM FOR SOLVING OBESITY AMONG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS, YANG TALAT DISTRICT, KALASIN PROVINCE

Abstract

This action research aimed to develop of a nutrition management model by the health literate school mechanism for solving obesity among the student at primary school, Yang Talat district, Kalasin province. This study was conducted among students grade 1–6 in the primary school at Pinijratbamrung School. A total of 82 students with overweight and obesity, and 30 stakeholders. Research Instrument include Instrument for develop a participatory action research model. Questionnaire-based quantitative Instrument and qualitative Instrument to record and observe participation duration of study August-October 2022, total 3 months. The data were analyzed the descriptive statistic, and inference statistics to compare differences by Paired  t-test, Qualitative data was analyzed by content analysis.

This results was revealed that the process of developing this system consists of 7 steps;
1) Learning of the context and problems, 2) Participatory workshops, 3) Action plan formulation, 4) Implementation based on the action plan, 5) Participatory observation, 6) Summarize the lesson, 7) Assess success factors It was found that after development there were changes such as an environment conducive to good health. There is a fitness club. And after activities showed the mean score of knowledge about obesity, practices to reduce obesity, access to health information, health communication, self-management and media awareness, and decision to prevent obesity which were increased more than before the operating in the statistically significant at p-value< 0.05.
