EFFECTS OF USING A NURSING PRACTICE GUIDELINES FOR THE MANAGE DYSPHAGIA OF ACUTE STROKE PATIENTS, INTENSIVE CARE UNIT 1, LAMPHUN HOSPITAL

This research is quasi-experimental one-group pretest -posttest design to assess the knowledge of nurses on the manage dysphagia of acute stroke patients and the incidence of aspiration pneumonia in acute stroke patients before and after the using a nursing practice guidelines for the manage dysphagia of acute stroke patient. The sample was selected specifically with nurses working in intensive care units 1, 17 people and acute stroke patients admitted to intensive care units 1, Lamphun Hospital during April – June 2023, 24 people.
The study found that after the implementation of the nursing practice guidelines for the manage dysphagia of acute stroke patient, registered nurses had a statistically significant increase in knowledge about managing dysphagia of acute stroke patients at a level of .05. And no incidence of aspiration pneumonia reported.
These findings suggest that the nursing practice guidelines for dysphagia management among stroke patients can decrease the incidence of aspiration pneumonia.
