FACTORS INFLUENCING HEALTH PROMOTION BEHAVIORS OF PUBLIC HEALTH VOLUNTEERS: A CASE STUDY OF THE SOUTHERN BANGKOK AREA GROUP

Abstract

This cross-sectional analytical study aimed to study the factors influencing health promotion behaviors of public health volunteers in the Southern Bangkok area. The sample consisted of 371 public health volunteers in the Southern Bangkok area. The sample size was determined using Daniel's (2010) formula. Data were collected using a questionnaire with a reliability of 0.934. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics, including Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient, point-biserial correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis.

The results of the study found that health promotion behavior of public health volunteers was at a high level. The leading factors were attitudes towards health promotion, self-efficacy perception towards health behavior, enabling factors were public health training, attending monthly meetings with staff, and reinforcing factors were perceived motivation to perform duties, which had a positive relationship (r = 0.318, 0.452, 0.207, 0.123, and 0.408, respectively). Perceived self-efficacy towards health behavior, perceived motivation to perform duties, and attending monthly meetings with staff could jointly predict health promotion behavior of public health volunteers in Bangkok, Southern Bangkok group by 28.2 percent (R² = 0.282, p-value < 0.001)
