THE EFFECTS OF HEALTH LITHERLACY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM TO IMPROVE ANEMIA IN PREGNANCY

Abstract

This quasi-experimental research aimed to investigate the effects of health literacy development program in pregnancy at prenatal care clinic gestational age between 12-20 weeks. They were divided 30 people for control group who have standard program.  The treatment group 30 people received additional the 8 weeks health literacy development program and no different baseline characteristic between groups. The program consisted of: 1) Creating relationships between a pregnant woman and her caregiver, a medication agreement, and a reminder calendar. 2) Practice pregnant women provide information about anemia from a reliable source 3) E-book, Iron supplement menu 4) Online visit 5) Evaluation. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire and measure hematocrit at 20 weeks gestational and the statistics used for data analysis were paired t-test, independent t-test significance was considered at 0.05.

Results: In the control group hematocrit before and after, decreased with statistical significance, p-value < 0.001 Hematocrit levels in the treatment group were unchanged and tendency higher than the control group. Treatment group had a significantly higher mean score of six from seven dimensions of health literacy than before, with a statistical significance p-value < 0.05 except for access to knowledge and health services and a higher mean score than the control group.

The program has tendency to improve health literacy and effect able to maintain the level of hematocrit.
