The effects of an interactive electronic book on peripheral intravenous fluid administration on knowledge, skills, and satisfaction among nursing students

Abstract

This quasi-experimental study aimed to compare knowledge and skills related to peripheral intravenous fluid administration between nursing students in the experimental and control groups and to assess the experimental group’s satisfaction with learning through an interactive e-book. The sample consisted of 72 second-year nursing students who were randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups, with 36 students in each group. The research instruments included an interactive e-book, a knowledge test, a skills assessment form, and a satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Mann–Whitney U test.

The results showed that the experimental group had significantly higher post-test knowledge scores than the control group (p = .002). Although the experimental group had higher skill scores than the control group, the difference was not statistically significant (p = .093). Overall satisfaction with learning through the interactive e-book was at the highest level (Mean = 4.66, SD = 0.41).

This study suggests that the interactive e-book should be used to enhance nursing students’ knowledge and serve as a supplementary learning resource for lesson reviews and preclinical preparation.
