Abstract
This research is a quasi-experimental to compare the effectiveness of Mahajak oil and 1% Diclofenac gel relieve myofascial pain syndrome. In two group patients, pretest and posttest design with a single – blinded trial. Sixty participants who had experienced muscle pain and aged between 16 and 55 years in the study. All participants were randomly allocated into 2 groups consist of 30 participants each group who received Mahajak oil and a comparator group of 30 people received 1% Diclofenac gel. Apply the medicine 2 mg to the muscles of shoulder and neck, 3 times daily for 7 day. Outcome measures included muscle pain which assessed by numerical rating scale and cervical range of motion (CROM) by cervical range of motion device before and after applying the medicine. Results revealed that after 7 days of treatment, a significant (p<0.05) reduction of pain intensity was observed in both groups. Mahajak oil had different in CROM and rotation of the neck and shoulder (p<0.05). Result of pressure pain threshold on the shoulders were significant differences between before and after the treatment. Increase cervical range of motion and there was a significant differences in the resistance to pressure pain threshold on the shoulders (p<0.05). Therefore, this study concluded using Mahajak oil 6 mg daily for 7 days can reduce pain of shoulder and neck muscles better than 1% diclofenac gel.
