Herbal Drugs in Asthma Formula from the Ancient Medicinal Formulary Texts of Police Captain Bhiam Bunyachot

Abstract

Asthma deteriorates the population health, in 2015, Thailand had asthma patients 7 percent of the population.  This is the opportunity in developing Thai tradition drug for asthma, Police Captain Bhiam Bunyachote gathered ancient medicinal formulary and had been printed in twelve texts during 1971-1982, the asthma drugs to be selected by 2 level data structure; formula level and drug level.  There were 56 asthma formula (without duplicated) with 224 drugs, the classification of drug from groups by the number of drugs in the formula, the formula group that contained a small number of drugs will show their direct effect to asthma. The drugs in the group of one drug formula were giant forest scorpion, pubic hair, and hair.  The drugs in the group of two drugs formula were 10 drugs; hair, Dracaena loureiroi Gagnep., copper sulfate, Zingiber zerumbet (L.) Roscoe ex Sm., bullet wood, ivy gourd, sugar, lime water, Mucuna macrocarpa Wall., and oysters.  The drugs in the group of three drugs formula were 6 drugs; ivy gourd, Senna siamea (Lam.) Irwin & Barneby, Cassia alata ( L.) Roxb., honey, red ant, and streaky pork.  The drugs in the group of 4-5 drugs, 6-10 drugs, and 11-43 drugs were 36, 59, and 194 drugs, respectively.  The group of more than 3 drugs formula had not only direct drugs, but tonic drugs also included.
