The Effects of Breast Massage and Hot Compress on Stimulating of Milk Flow in Postpartum Mothers at Phusing Hospital, Srisaket Province

Abstract
This Quasi–experimental research had aimed to study the effects of breast massage and hot compress to stimulate the milk flow in the postpartum mothers at Phusing hospital, Srisaket Province. The 60 samples were purposively selected and divided into experimental and control groups based on the inclusion criteria as. normal delivery in 3 days of recovery at the hospital, normal nipples, and no allergies or complications in using the herbs, The experimental group received, breast massage and hot compress program in 6, 12, 18, and 30 hours after delivery. The frequency of baby sucking and the amount of water intake of the postpartum mothers were controlled similarly in each group. Data were collected by questionnaire, numbers of baby sucking, and 5 rating scales of milk flow. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and Independent Sample T-test. The results founded that 65% of experimental group had starting the milk flow in 6 hours after delivery whereas the control group found starting the milk flow only 10%. The average score of the flow of milk in the experimental group and the control group were significantly different (p-value <0.001) at 6, 12, 18, and 30 hours after delivery. Therefore, it should be promote the breast massage and hot compress program for postpartum mothers to stimulated the milk flow and expand the network to the other health service organization.
