Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the chemical constituents and antioxidant activities of noni (Morinda citrifolia L.) extract and to develop a liquid soap product for body cleansing applications. Noni powder was extracted with ethanol, yielding an extraction yield of 33.01%. The results showed that the extract contained total phenolic content of 85.89 ± 0.04 mg gallic acid equivalent per gram of extract (mg GAE/g extract) and total flavonoid content of 76.56 ± 1.75 mg quercetin equivalent per gram of extract (mg QE/g extract). High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis identified gallic acid and quercetin as major bioactive compounds at concentrations of 45.43 and 16.80 µg/g extract, respectively. Antioxidant activity assays revealed FRAP and DPPH values of 73.64 ± 0.42 and 56.06 ± 1.44 mg Trolox equivalent per gram of extract (mg TE/g extract), respectively, while the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) was 824.9 µg/mL. The developed liquid soap products were clear yellow liquids with pH values ranging from 5.00 to 5.20, which are close to the natural pH of human skin and therefore suitable for body cleansing applications. These findings suggest that noni extract has potential as a functional ingredient in body cleansing products with antioxidant properties and skin-friendly characteristics
