Treatment of manifest symptoms in postpartum women by traditional healers in Surin Province

Abstract
This study aimed to: 1) To explore the knowledge and background of traditional healers in treating postpartum abnormal conditions in Surin Province. 2) To examine the patterns and procedures for treating postpartum abnormal conditions employed by traditional healers. 3) To evaluate the satisfaction of service recipients with the treatment provided by traditional healers. This qualitative study employed a conceptual framework based on the knowledge and treatment practices of traditional healers for postpartum abnormal conditions. The study population consisted of 4 traditional healers and 20 service recipients, selected through purposive sampling. Research tools included interviews with traditional healers and satisfaction questionnaires for service recipients. Data analysis utilized descriptive statistics such as percentages, means, standard deviations, and content analysis.
The findings revealed that: 1) Knowledge and Treatment Processes The knowledge was transmitted from knowledgeable individuals, such as fathers, teachers, and traditional healers. Among the 4 traditional healers studied: Two healers specialized in treating postpartum abnormal conditions. One healer specialized in women's health issues. One healer specialized in treating abnormal conditions. 2) Herbal Remedies A total of 40 types of herbal remedies used for treating postpartum abnormal conditions were identified. These remedies were categorized into 7 groups according to the herbal medicine compendium: Remedies for obstetric and gynecological conditions. Remedies for gastrointestinal conditions. Remedies for fever. Remedies for musculoskeletal conditions. Remedies for urinary tract conditions. Antidotes for toxicity and poisoning. Tonics for balancing and nourishing bodily elements. 3) Service Recipient Satisfaction Service recipients expressed the highest levels of satisfaction in four aspects: The professionalism of traditional healers. The treatment process and outcomes. The quality of service delivery. The suitability of the service location
