This quasi - experimental pre - posttest study using a control group aimed to study the effects of giving planned information combined with a music listening program on anxiety after cardiac catheterization among acute myocardial infarction patients. The participants were acute myocardial infarction patients who received their first emergency cardiac catheterization at Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima hospital. The participants were assigned to a control and experimental groups (22 for each group). The control group received conventional nursing care, while the experimental group received the planned information combined with the music listening program. The program was conducted for 2 days after cardiac catheterization at the Cardiac Care Unit. Data were collected by using the demographic questionnaire, The State - Trait Anxiety Inventory Form Y-1 (Spielberger, 1983), a knowledge questionnaire related to coronary heart disease and one item of musical satisfaction. The content validity index of The State - Trait Anxiety Inventory Form Y-1 and the knowledge questionnaire related to coronary heart disease were .75 and .93, respectively. There reliabilities were .82 and .90, respectively. Dependent and independent t-test statistics were used to analyze the data.
The results revealed that the mean score of anxiety after receiving the giving of planned information combined with the music listening program was significantly lower than that before receiving the program (p<.05). The mean score of anxiety after receiving the giving of planned information combined with the music listening program in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group (p<.05).
All of the participants who received the giving of planned information combined with the music listening program satisfied a music listening. Knowledge related to coronary heart disease revealed that 18 persons or 81.82 % of the participants passed 80 % criterion and 4 persons or 19.18 % did not pass.
