A Study of Scoping Reviews of Health Research of Colleges Under the Praboromarachachanok Institute

Abstract

Collecting, categorizing, and synthesizing of research by educational institutions is important in order to encourage health professionals’ self-development through the research process. The purpose of this scoping literature review was to assess the published studies from colleges under the Praboromrajchanok Institute (PI) of Thailand.  The full texts of three thousand six hundred and seventy-two published research articles were collected from 39 institutes from BE 2550 to 2559. The research tool was the Computer Program for Collecting Research from PI, developed by researchers to record the general data and characteristics of research conducted by PI personnel.  Data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, and content analysis.  Results showed that most of the studies were nursing research (72.47%) related to learning and teaching methods (34.97%), and were conducted in community settings (29.71%). There were only a small number of studies found which were systematic reviews (1.39%), clinical studies (19.95%), or research for commercial purposes (23.12%), or that received international research funding (0.90%). Seven common primary focus areas were identified among the research: 1) nursing curriculum, 2) community health, 3)integrated instruction, 4) the study participants were nursing students, 5) focused on nursing students’ educational accreditation or characteristics, 6) patients with non-communicable disease, and 7) health promotion and disease prevention. Synthesized research evidence revealed that the scope of research issues covered the nursing and public health profession in accord with the concurrent trends in public health policy. The results suggest that the PI should provide more support and encourage their staff to conduct clinical nursing studies.
