Care Plan for Activities of Daily Living of Older Adult

Abstract

Dementia is an acquired loss of cognition in multiple cognitive domains sufficiently severe to affect social or occupational function. However, dementia is commonly associated with more than one neuropathology, such as Alzheimer’s disease with a cerebrovascular pathology. Diagnosing dementia requires a history evaluation for cognitive decline and impairment in daily activities over time, with corroboration from close friends or family members. Dementia is a complex condition, The aim of treatment is to reduce the stress of care givers for patients with dementia and to reduce the suffering caused by the cognitive and accompanying symptoms (e.g., changes in mood and behavior), while delaying the inevitable progressive cognitive decline. This article summarizes the causes, characteristics, and risk factors of this disease, as well as provides care plans for Activities of Daily Living (ADL) for older adults with dementia for care Givers to follow for matters such as dressing, eating, bathing, elimination/toilet, stranding/walking/mobility, and environmental safety.
