Development of Online Learning Material to Promote Decision-Making Ability in Morphine Administration in Clinical Simulation among the Third Year Nursing Students

The development of knowledge and decision-making ability in the administration of morphine is essential, as morphine is a high-risk drug. If administered incorrectly, it can pose a risk to patient safety. This research and development study aimed to 1) Develop and evaluate the effectiveness of the media 2) Compare knowledge scores on morphine before and after using the online learning media 3) Evaluate the ability to make decisions in morphine administration 4) Study student opinions on the online learning media. The study sample consisted of 30 third-year nursing students from Ramathibodi School of Nursing, who were selected by simple random sampling. The research tools included 1) Online learning media on morphine 2) Personal information questionnaire 3) Achievement test 4) Observation form for evaluating the ability to make decisions in morphine administration in simulated situations 5) Questionnaire to collect student opinions on the online learning media. The instruments 3-5 had acceptable reliability, as follows: Item 3 had a Kuder-Richardson (KR-20) value of 0.80, item 4 had an interrater reliability of 90.56%, and item 5 had a Cronbach's alpha coefficient () of 0.93. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test statistics. The results showed that the effectiveness of the media was (E1/E2) = 85.42/92.33. Students had a mean knowledge score on morphine after using the media (M = 9.23, SD = 1.07) that was significantly higher than before using the media (M = 5.47, SD = 1.53) at the .05 level (t(29) = -12.471, p = .001). The overall ability to make decisions in morphine administration was high (M = 0.89, SD = 0.16). The overall opinions of students on the online learning media were positive (M = 4.37, SD = 0.44). Online learning media can be used to increase knowledge and promote decision-making ability in morphine administration in nursing students.
