Abstract

Entrepreneurship is an essential competency that fosters innovative thinking and contributes to improvements in service quality. This descriptive research aimed to: (1) examine the level of entrepreneurial skills; (2) examine the levels of entrepreneurial characteristics; and (3) compare entrepreneurial skills and entrepreneurial characteristics among nursing students with different personal factors. The sample was comprised of 186 first-to fourth-year nursing students. The research instruments included a personal entrepreneurial factors questionnaire developed for this study, with an S-CVI of 0.90 and a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.98, as well as entrepreneurial skills and entrepreneurial characteristics assessments adopted from previous studies, with S-CVIs of 1.00 and 0.98 and Cronbach's alpha coefficients of 0.71 and 0.83, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA). The findings revealed that the overall level of entrepreneurial skills among nursing students was high (M = 3.36) and their entrepreneurial characteristics were also at a high level (M = 4.17). Fourth-year students demonstrated the highest mean scores in both domains. Among the personal entrepreneurial factors, learning had the highest mean scores, followed by self-efficacy and attitude. The MANOVA results indicated statistically significant differences in entrepreneurial skills and characteristics among students with different levels of attitude, self-efficacy, and learning (p < .05) whereas year of study and cumulative grade point average did not significantly affect overall entrepreneurial scores. The findings suggest that active and experiential learning should emphasize the development of attitude, self-efficacy, and learning, which may enhance nursing students’ entrepreneurial competencies. These findings may be used to inform curriculum development and instructional approaches aimed at strengthening entrepreneurial competencies among nursing students in the digital health era.
