Effectiveness of a Motivation Enhancement Program on Safe Pesticide Use Behaviors among Rice Farmers in Nong Bua Ta Kiat Subdistrict, Dan Khun Thot District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province

This quasi-experimental research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a motivational enhancement program designed to promote safe pesticide use behaviors among rice farmers in Nong Bua Takiat Sub-district, Dan Khun Thot District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The sample consisted of 70 rice farmers, selected through purposive sampling and divided into an experimental group and a control group, with 35 participants each. The experimental group participated in an 8-week motivational enhancement program based on the Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) and Social Support Theory. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Comparative analysis of mean scores within and between groups was performed using Paired t-tests and Independent t-tests, respectively. The results revealed that the experimental group had significantly higher than the control group in knowledge about the danger of pesticide use, perceived severity of danger, perceived susceptibility to danger, response efficacy expectation, self-efficacy, expectation for prevention, and protective behavior against the danger of pesticide use (p<0.05).This program is therefore effective in promoting safe pesticide use behavior and should be extended for use in groups of farmers with similar agricultural contexts. The content must be adapted to align with the lifestyle and types of chemicals used in each area for maximum effectiveness. efficiency, program content should be tailored to align with local lifestyles and the specific types of chemicals utilized in each area.
