Abstract

This action research aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of an image receptor holder for radiographic imaging of the knee and leg. The study involved 30 patients undergoing knee and leg radiography and 2 radiologic technologists at Nadun Hospital, Maha Sarakham Province.
The research was conducted in four phases: planning, action, observation, and reflection, during October 2023 – September 2024. Data collection tools included a radiographic record form, radiographic image quality assessment form, and satisfaction questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-test.

The results revealed that the developed image receptor holder featured a rectangular base measuring 40 × 50 cm and 5 cm in height, constructed from clear acrylic, plywood, and PVC pipes. The total weight was 2.8 kilograms, with a production cost of 756 Baht. After implementation,
the repeat rate of radiographic imaging decreased from 23.33% to 6.67%. The radiographic image quality significantly improved (p-value < 0.05) in all aspects, including sharpness, density, anatomical positioning, anatomical detail, and image completeness. The average imaging time was reduced from 5.01 minutes to 3.05 minutes (p-value < 0.001). Moreover, patient satisfaction was rated at the highest level ( = 4.67, S.D. = 0.47)

In conclusion, the developed image receptor holder was effective in reducing repeat rates, improving radiographic image quality, and shortening imaging time. This device can be feasibly applied in community hospitals with limited resources and personnel.
