This quasi-experimental study aimed to examine the effect of a behavior modification program to reduce the risk level of cardiovascular disease in hypertensive patients who visited the outpatient department at Sriprajan Hospital, Suphanburi Province. The sample consisted of 60 hypertensive patients with a cardiovascular risk score of 10-30%, divided into an experimental group of 30 and a control group of 30. The study was conducted from April to September 2025. Data collection tools included a personal information questionnaire and a cardiovascular risk behavior assessment form. Quantitative data analysis used descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, and paired t-test was applied for pre- and post-comparison.
The results showed that the majority of the experimental group were male (56.7%) with an average age of 52.13 years. Comorbidities included heart disease at 83.3%. For the control group, most were male (66.7%) with an average age of 51.86 years, and comorbid heart disease was 76.7%. After the intervention, the experimental group had significantly better BMI (Body Mass Index) and cardiovascular risk scores than the control group at a 0.05 significance level. Six months after the intervention, the experimental group showed significantly better BMI and FPG (fasting plasma glucose) levels than the control group, also at a 0.05 significance level.
The application of the behavior modification program can be adapted for individualized management in the care of other chronic disease patients in hospitals.
