At present, preschool children tend to access digital media at an increasingly younger age, which may increase the risk of problematic digital media use and adversely affect child development. This study aimed to examine the level of problematic digital media use among preschool children and to analyze factors associated with such behavior. The study sample consisted of 240 parents of preschool children, selected using a multistage sampling method. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multivariable logistic regression analysis.
The results showed that the majority of preschool children exhibited normal digital media use (63.33%), while 36.67% were classified as being at risk of problematic digital media use.Factors significantly associated with problematic digital media use among preschool children included parental knowledge level (Adjusted OR = 1.87, 95% CI: 1.05-3.33; p-value = 0.034), children’s duration of digital media use (Adjusted OR = 6.12, 95% CI: 1.64-22.64; p-value = 0.007), parental practices regarding digital media use with preschool children (Adjusted OR = 2.80, 95%
CI: 1.50-5.04; p-value = 0.001), and parental perception regarding digital media use (Adjusted OR = 2.07, 95% CI: 1.15–3.77; p-value = 0.016).
These findings highlight the importance of promoting parental knowledge and strengthening parental supervision of digital media use to prevent problematic digital media use among preschool children.
