Abstract

This study was a quasi – experimental research of one-group pretest and posttest design and used the purposive sampling. The objective of this study was to study the effectiveness of Benjakul in patients with abdominal distension. The Severity of dyspepsia assessment (SODA) was used to study the safety and adverse reactions associated with the use of Benjakul in patients with abdominal distension. The data were collected using an assessment form a sample of patients with abdominal distension who were treated at Thai Traditional and Integrated Medicine Hospital, Chaeng Watthana Government Center Branch which consisted of 85 people for a period of 7 days. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and parameter statistics. The results of the study were found that assessment of dyspepsia, classified by symptoms before, 3 and 7 days respectively after taking the medicine, found that the flatulence score other symptom scale scores symptoms according to the severity of the belching. Sub – lingual pain, flatulence, farting, sour burp, nausea, foul breath, and satisfaction scores on flatulence. There was a statistically significant difference at 0.05 levels. The satisfaction assessment of dyspepsia was classified by symptoms before and after 3 and 7 days respectively after treatment initiation. 85.89% of patients reported improvement in symptoms, and no serious side effects. 14.11% of patients reported most of the side effects were mild to moderate. In conclusion, Benjakul recipe is effective and safe to treat. Therefore, it can be an alternative for relieving abdominal bloating and distension.
