Abstract
An applied herbal gel containing herbal extracts in the formulation of the pelvic poultice is an interesting alternative herbal product for relieving pain in women of reproductive age who suffer from primary dysmenorrhea. The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy in relieving menstrual pain of an applied herbal gel, a traditional herbal poultice, and a placebo gel containing methyl salicylate and peppermint oil in 45 female reproductive age volunteers with primary dysmenorrhea (15 subjects per group). Menstrual pain levels were assessed before and after testing on Day 1 and Day 2 of menstruation with the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). The degree of menstrual pain after the test was assessed at 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour and 4 hours. The results showed that applied herbal gel and traditional poultice significantly reduced menstrual pain (p < 0.05). And when comparing the applied herbal gel group and the traditional poultice, it was found that on day 1 and day 2, the majority of the two groups had no difference in menstrual pain levels during each period. However, the applied herbal gel is the development of herbal formulas to be herbal products that are convenient for use. Promote people who are interested in having access to the use of herbs easily and more conveniently to use.
