A Development of the ClinicalTeaching Learning Assessment System to PromoteCaring Behaviors of Nursing Students

Assessment for learning is related to process of the study in nursing. It helps nursing students to achieve their goals of learning.The purposes of this research were to develop, implement, and study the quality of the teaching learning assessment system in practicum course to promote nursing students’ caring behaviors. The methodology consisted of three phases. Phase 1 was to develop the system. Phase 2 was to implement system. Phase 3 was to study the quality of the system. In the implement system phase, the sample consisted of 5 nurse instructors and 40 nursing students who were practicing for the Mental Health Problems Practicum. The data were collected by using: observation, questionnaires, focus group, and document analysis. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. The research result found that the clinical teaching learning assessment system to promote nursing students’ caring behaviors included 4 components (1) Input consisted of 1.1) assessment instruments, 1.2) assessment system manuals, 1.3) evaluation criteria, 1.4) assessor, and 1.5) assessment recipient.(2) Process consisted of 2.1) Sharing learning objectives and criteria for success 2.2) engineering effective classroom discussions, questions, activities and tasks 2.3) providing feedback 2.4) self- assessment, and 2.5) peer-assessment (3) Output was nursing students’ caring behaviors consisted of 5 components: 3.1) patient safety, 3.2) holistic care, 3.3) compassion, 3.4) respect and 3.5) effective communication; (4) providing feedback.The clinical teaching learning assessment system to promote nursing students’caring behaviors could optimize the efficient communication at the highest level. The clinical teaching learning assessment system toromote nursing students’ caring behaviors met the standard criteria of feasibility, utility, and accuracy standards at the highest level, and appropriateness standard at the highest level.
