Abstract

Oxyceros horridus were commonly used in Thai traditional medicine. This study aimed to investigate antioxidant activities, phenolic and flavonoid contents of root, stem and leaves by three solvents extract (hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol). The antioxidant activities were performed with DPPH and FRAP methods. Phenolic and flavonoid contents were performed with Folin-Ciocaltue method and Aluminum chloride colorimetric method, respectively. The methanolic extract of O. horridus ‘s stem showed the highest antioxidant activities in both antioxidant methods (EC50 of DPPH = 53.79 ± 2.72 µg/ml, FRAP value = 3.42 ± 0.24 mg AEAC/mg extract) and showed the highest phenolic contents (430.22 ± 26.22 mg GAE/g Extract). However, the highest flavonoids contents was found in ethyl acetate extract of O. horridus’s leaves (123.39 ± 3.72 mg QE/g extract). The results indicated that O. horridus ‘s stem and leave extracts were interested in phytochemical composition analysis and further bioactivities study.
