Burden Among Caregivers of Schizophrenia patient

Abstract
Objective: To measure the burden among caregivers of Schizophrenia patient
Subjects: Participant were caregivers of Schizophrenia patient who care the patient for 4 hours per day and continue for 6 months or more.
Duration of study: 10 April 2016-10 May 2016
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among primary care unit using questionnaires as assessment tool. The participants were required answer 3 parts. 1) Demographic data based age gender marriage education occupation 2) Assess the caregiver burden by ZBI 3) assess the function by GAF
Results: From sample population (N=44) that met our inclusion criteria. The burden among caregivers of Schizophrenia patient was 54.5% (mild 20.5%, moderate 22.7%, and severe 11.4%). Statistical formation from univariate analysis showed factor associated with caregiver burden is income less than 5,000 Baht per month (p=0.049). The GAF score less than 20 associate with caregiver burden (p=0.004) Female caregiver tend to have burden more than male (p=0.737). Caregiver burden associated with patient’s alcohol drinking (p=0.001)
Conclusion: The burden among caregivers of Schizophrenia patient was 54.5%
