The prevalence of cognitive impairment in elderly

Abstract
Objective: To study the prevalence of cognitive impairment and factor that associate in elderly
Subjects: Participant were elderly people who live in Yasothon province
Duration of study: December 2014
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among primary care unit using questionnaires as assessment tool. The participants were required to answer 2 parts. 1) Demographic data based age, gender, marital status, education and occupation 2) Assess cognitive performance by using clock drawing test, percentage, prevalence, mean, univariate analysis (Odds ratios, 95% Cl, X2)
Results: From sample population (N=353) that met our inclusion criteria. The prevalence of cognitive impairment among the elderly was 64.3%. The univariate analysis showed factor associated with cognitive impairment were age over 70 (69% Xp-value = 0.022, ODD ratio 1.61, 95%CI 1.04-2.50) and the education (p-value =0.039).
Conclusion: There are 227 from 353 elderly in Yasothon had cognitive impairment (64.3%)
