Abstract

Background: Multimodal pain management, combining analgesics of different mode of action aims to minimize occurrence of side effects still providing safe and efficacious pain management.
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of a single dose ULTRACET™ (tramadol/paracetamol),analgesic combination of tramadol/paracetamol for postoperative pain after breast mass excision, compare with placebo, one tablet(tramadol/ paracetamol 37.5/325 mg),two tablet(tramadol/ paracetamol 75/650 mg).
Material and methods: Prospective cohort study was conducted in ninety patients who undergoing breast mass excision under general anesthesia. After surgery the patients were randomized to three groups of 30 patients each, placebo, one tablet and two tablets of tramadol/paracetamol, numerical rating scale (NRS), morphine consumption and side effects were recorded at 1,4,8 hr after surgery.
Results: NRS and morphine consumption were significantly lower in 1,4 hr. in TP1 group whereas TP2 group significantly lower in 1,4,8 hr. compare with placebo (p value < 0.05). Adverse effects were similar in all groups.
Conclusion: A single postoperative two tablets ULTRACET™ has more efficacy to control pain after breast mass excision and occurrence of side effects were similar, compare with one tablet and placebo.
