Development of patient chart in recovery room, anesthetic department, Surin hospital

Abstract

Background: Nursing care providing to post-operative patient in recovery room after anesthetic procedure needs close observation and prompt care to prevent risks to complications. Nurse note is therefore essential for anesthetic nurses in recovery room to provide nursing care to patient, in which the accurate, generalized and continuous note will be effective to transfer patient information to other nursing care team and multi-disciplinary for patient care.
Objective: To develop the appropriate patient monitoring chart in recovery room in anesthetic department, Surin hospital.
Study design: Action research
Sample: 21 nurse anesthetists from anesthetic department, Surin hospital.
Method: Research tool was questionnaire which comprised of two parts; demographic data and patient assessment. The questionnaire was approved for content validity and modified by the experts before applied to practice. The process of this study was 1.planning and preparation 2. applied to practice (action) and 3. review and evaluation. Data was collected during January to June 2009 then analyzed and presented by mean and percentage.
Result: The result found that the developed patient chart in recovery room has sufficient space for recording, convenient, cover for all work shifts, time saving and systematic. The patient care chart covered the problems of nursing activity in recovery room and also contains patient evaluation for transferring critical patient information to other patient care professionals.
Conclusion: According to this finding; the developed patient chart for post-operative patient in recovery room reflects the quality and standard of anesthetic nursing care.
