The Study of Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP) in Sisaket Hospital

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the effective of loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) in patient with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN).
Design: Retrospective study
Methods: From 1 October 2009 to 31 May 2011, eighty-nine patients who had abnormal pap smear and confirmed diagnosis with colposcope and direct biopsy were subject to LEEP. The procedure was undergone mainly under local anesthesia, medical records were reviewed for patient profiles. The indications for LEEP, pathological tissues were analyzed.
Results: The median age of patient was 45.5 years (range 25-72). CIN III accounted for the majority, 55 patients (65.17%), CIS in 14 patients (15.7.3%), microinvasive squamous cell carcinoma in 2 patients (2.24%), 2 patients (2.24%) histopathological result were invasive squamous cell carcinoma and invasive adenocarcinoma in 1 patient (1.12%). Three patients were refered to the tertiary hospital for further management. Free resection margins of lesion in cervix were noted in 65 patients (73.03%) 1 unfree margins were appeared in 24 patients (26.97%). All CIS, AIS, CIS with AIS and micro invasive squamous cell carcinoma who underwent simple hysterectomy.
Conclusion: Loop electrosurgical excision procedure was effective and safe method for diagnosis and treatment of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.
