Abstract

Introduction: The pulpectomy procedure is indicated in primary teeth with irreversible pulpitis or necrosis. Pulp therapy aims to maintain primary teeth until they are replaced by permanent teeth. However, the complex morphology of root canal system makes it difficult to clean. So one factor that increase success rate is root canal filling material. Resorption of the material is considered one of the requirement of an ideal root filling material. Vitapex® can be considered to be a nearly ideal primary tooth filling material.
Objective: The aim of this case report is to present the pulpectomy treatment using Vitapex® in primary tooth.
Method: Case report.
Case report: A-5-year old Thai boy had severe early childhood caries. Mandibular primary first molar showed large carries, gingival swelling and tooth mobility. Mandibular first molar treated by pulpectomy with Vitapex® and ssc. This case report showed a clinical and radiographic follow up seven months. An immediate postoperative radiograph revealed that Vitapex® extruded from the apex. Seven months after treatment Vitapex® was partially resorbed and proved to be clinically and radiographically successful. Notable improvement function and nutritional status of the patient were obtained.
Conclusion: Vitapex® used as an effective root canal filling material for pulpectomy treatment in poor prognosis primary teeth.
