Abstract

Background: Leptospirosis is major of health problem at Sisaket province since 1997. In October 2008 found raising numbers of leptospirosis patients and death cases. So reviewed inpatient chart of leptospirosis is performed.
Objective: To study signs and symptoms, laboratory result and duration during sickness to admitted in hospital compared with resulted of treatment
Design: Retrospective-Descriptive study
Method: Reviewed inpatient chart that last diagnosis is leptospirosis during 1st January to 30th October 2008, descriptive statistic and multiple logistic regression were done.
Result: 94 Charts of leptospirosis patients were reviewed form totally 99 Charts (94.9%). Male to Female ratio was 10.75 : 1, mean of age 38.8 years, Occupation mostly found agriculture 71.3 % . Mostly of symptom was fever 91.5%. Average of duration from fever or abnormal symptoms to treatment was 4.1 days. Lepto - dipstick test from 84 patients were positive 44 patients (52.4%). Result of treatments were completed recovery 84 patients (89.4%), death 7 patients (fatality rate among inpatient of leptospirosis in Sisaket Hospital was 7 %). Average of admitted day was 6.1 (1-37 days). From multiple logistic regression revealed thrombocytopenia is the only significant predictive factor (among > 5 days admitted cases). Microscopic agglutination test (MAT) was sent 12 samples, 5 samples were positive for infection and found 9 serogroups
Conclusion: Leptospirosis still remain one of important health problem in Sisaket province. Especially in 2008, the fatality rate among inpatient of leptospirosis in Sisaket Hospital was 7 %
