A Case of Syringomyelia Associated with Chiari Malformation and Hydrocephalus : Case Report
Main Article Content
Abstract
Syringomyelia associated with Chiari malformation is a common condition, but rarely associated with hydrocephalus without others posterior fossa pathology. In this article, The author describe a case of syringomyelia associated with Chiari malformation and hydrocephalus, include clinical presentations, imagings, treatment and its results.
A 35-year-old man presented with headache and progressive quadriparesis for 3 years. MRI cervical spine and thoracic spine demonstrated Chiari I malformation and syringomyelia, CT scan of brain demonstrated dilatation of ventricles. The patient subsequently underwent suboccipital craniectomy with Cl laminectomy and dural patch graft to enable craniocervical decompression. Follow up MRI revealed reduction in both syrinx size and ventricles size.
Key words: Syringomyelia, Chiari malformation, hydrocephalus, craniocervical decompression
