Prevalence of Patients with Dengue Infection in Sikhoraphum Hospital

Abstract

Background: Dengue infection is the most common infectious disease, to known prevalence may help prevention and early detection
Objective: To study prevalence, symptom and sign, correlation between tourniquet test and diagnosis, compare prevalence of dengue infection between gender, age group in Sikhraphum hospital
Design: Descriptive Analytic Study (nonparametric test)
Setting: Patients with dengue infection who admitted during 1 October 2006 to 30 September 2007
Subjects: 428 patients with dengue infection were included Mean age was 12.8 ± 7.0 years, and 51.2% were male
Results: Dengue infection most common in rainy season : Dengue fever (DF) = 276 (64.5%), Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) = 130 (30.4%), Dengue shock syndrome (DSS) = 22 (5.1%) : Dengue fever (DF) with tourniquet test positive were 118 (42%) : Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) with tourniquet test positive were 38 (29%) : Dengue shock syndrome (DSS) with tourniquet test positive were 5 (22%)
Conclusion
     : No difference of prevalence in patients with dengue infection between male and female
     : No difference of prevalence in patients with dengue shock syndrome between male and female
     : Most common in patients age 11-15 years
     : Tourniquet test was positive most in patient with dengue fever
