Attitude of Nurse in Surin Hospital towards Nursing Process and problems or barriers

Abstract

Principle: Nursing process is an important part of nursing practice ; which based on the scientific them. Nursing process is therefore being the key role to nurse profession. The process comprised of 5 steps ; which are patient assessment, nurse diagnosis, nursing planing, nursing practice and outcome evaluation. At present, Surin hospital’s nurses had adopted nursing process to their practice, with still lacking of documentation and consensus of nursing process concept. Furthermone, their opinion to nursing process is somewhat unlikely practical. This study aims to describe nurse’s attitude to nursing process including the factors that affected nursing process adoption, The result will be the database for further problem solving and process improvement.
Objective: To study the attitude to nursing process of RN nurse in Surin hospital. And also determine factors that affected nursing process and present suggestions for successful implementation.
Venue: Surin Hospital.
Study design: Descriptive study
Method of study: The questionnaire which based on nursing process conceptual framework was developed and evaluated by 3 experts. Then it was used to interview 10 RN nurses for reliability testing and scored 0.8. Data collection performed with RN nurses from department of medicine surgery pediatrics obstetrics and psychology by answering the questionnaire pertained attitude to nursing process and problems of process utilization (36 subjects total). In-dept interview was performed to RN nurses form each department (9 subjects total).
Outcome: The subject groups have positive attitude to all steps of nursing process. Lacking of knowledge to assess patient, nursing planning, nursing practice and outcome evaluation were consider as moderately severe factors that effected nursing process performance. While ability to make nursing diagnosis and skill to assess problems were the most important factors.
Conclusion: RN nurse have positive attitude to nursing process. Unfortunately problems in nursing diagnosis and patient assessment impede the success of implementation. The further workshop conference and training should be established to eliminate these obstacles.
