Prevalent rate of uterine cervical cancer in surin Province between October 1, 2002 – September 30,2003

Abstract

Objcetive: To determine the prevalent rate of abnormal Pap smear of uterine cervix and prevalent rate of cervical cancer by cervical colposcope biopsy in 15 to 84 – year – old woman in surin province.
Design: Descriptive study.
Setting: Department of Pathology, Surin hospital
Subject: A total of 35,015 of 15 to 84 – year-old women who were checked Pap smear in health service units including Surin hospital, all community hospital, all primary care units private clinics and private hospital and Red-cross unit. Only 340 of abnormal Pap smear woman were took cervical colposcope biopsy for definite diagnosis during October 1,2002-September 30, 2003
Results: All of 35,015 women, who were checked Pap smear including the teen age group (15-19 yrs.) 1.3%, the young adult age group (20-34 yrs.) 26.1% and the adult to old age group (35-48 yrs.) 72.6% Screening Pap smear revealed abnormal 1.3% (450 cases) thal teen age group 0.04% (13 cases), young adult age group 0.4% (143 cases), and adult to old age group 0.8% (294 cases). A total 450 abnormal Pap smear women were Premalignant 93.6% (421 cases), that Low risk 71.8% (323 cases), High risk 21.8% (98 cases) and Malignant 604% (29 cases). Only 340 abnormal Pap smear women were took cervical colposcope biopsy and revealed Premalignant Low risk (CIN1) 33.8% (113 cases), High risk (CIN2,3CIS) 50.0% (170 cases) and Malignant 16.2% (57 cases) that SCC 13.5% (40 cases) and Adeno CA 3.2% (11 cases)
Conclusion: The abnormal Pap smear that Premalignant were started at the teen age group and Malignant were started at the young adult age group. /.The cervical colposcope biopsy result revealed High risk (CIN2,3 CIS) 50.0% of 340 biopsy cases. That started at the young adult age group and dissipated to the adult to old age group and progressed to carcinoma in about 3 months-1 year passed The malignant were also started at young adult age group and dissipated to the adult to old age group too. Prevalent rate of abnormal Pap smear of women in Surin province was 89.8/100,000 women and Prevalent rate of cervical cancer of woman in Surin Province was 11.4/100,000 woman at 2003.
