Relationships between Health Literacy, Self-care Behaviors and Quality of Life among Patients with first and second stage of Chronic Kidney Disease

Abstract
Background: A person there is good health literacy of chronic kidney disease will result in appropriate self-care behavior. When appropriate self-care behaviors result in good health and quality of life.
Objective: This research aimed to study the relationship between health literacy, self-care behaviors and quality of life among patients with first and second stage of chronic kidney disease.
Methods: This descriptive correlational research conducted with 115 people that 20 years old or older receive service at Sub-District health promotion hospital, Mueang Buriram district, Buriram province. Data were collected from July to August, 2022. Research instrument include 1) health literacy-related chronic kidney disease questionnaire 2) self-care behavior -related chronic kidney disease questionnaire and 3) World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief – Thai questionnaire. Descriptive and pearson correlation coefficient were apply for data analysis.
Results: The results revealed that moderate level of health literacy, self-care behavior and quality of life. Self-management skill of health literacy score was low associated statistically significant with self-care behavior (r=0.20,p=0.03). Decision-making skills of health literacy score was associated statistically significant with quality of life (r=0.37, p=0.00).
Conclusions: Self-management skill of health literacy associated with self-care behavior, Decision-making skills of health literacy associated with quality of life.
