The Effectiveness of Epilepsy Educational Video for Caregivers of Children with Epilepsy, Buriram Hospital

Abstract
Background: Communication of knowledge regarding epilepsy in children is crucial for treatment adherence and outcomes. Using educational video media for epilepsy is an alternative method to convey understanding about pediatric epilepsy to parents or caregivers.
Objectives: 1) To examine the effectiveness of an animation video in increasing knowledge about epilepsy among caregivers of pediatric epilepsy patients attending the Pediatric Epilepsy Clinic, Buriram Hospital, during office hours. 2) To assess the level of satisfaction with the educational video among caregivers of pediatric epilepsy patients at the Pediatric Epilepsy Clinic, Buriram Hospital.
Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental research using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population consisted of caregivers of pediatric epilepsy patients who visited the Pediatric Epilepsy Clinic during office hours at Buriram Hospital between January 1st.–31st., 2026. A sample of 60 caregivers was selected using purposive and simple random sampling. Research instruments included a 15-item epilepsy knowledge test and a 10-item satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test.
Results: The mean knowledge score of caregivers significantly increased from 8.2 to 12.6 points (p < 0.001) after viewing the educational video. Satisfaction with the video, particularly in enhancing understanding of epilepsy, was rated at the highest level ( = 4.60, SD = 0.62), including aspects of content, clarity, and engagement.
Conclusions: The animation video was effective in improving knowledge and generating high satisfaction among caregivers of pediatric epilepsy patients. It can serve as an effective tool to support health education in healthcare settings. However, follow-up studies are recommended to evaluate the impact on patient.
