Abstract

Background: Standard Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) devices are expensive, limiting access to services. Therefore, the researcher developed a self-invented intermittent mode NPWT innovation to reduce costs and increase treatment opportunities.
Objective: To compare nurses' satisfaction levels regarding the use of a self-developed intermittent-mode NPWT device across three domains: general usability, superiority over conventional continuous-mode systems, and confidence in usage and troubleshooting, between the initial implementation (2 weeks) and the experienced phase (3 months).
Methods: A descriptive, longitudinal study was conducted with a sample of 36 registered nurses in the surgical ward at Buri Ram Hospital between November 2025 and January 2026. The research instrument was a satisfaction questionnaire divided into five parts. Cronbach's alpha coefficient for reliability ranged from 0.81 to 0.96. Differences in mean scores between the first two weeks (T1) and after three months of use (T2) were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test.
Results: After three months of use, nurses' satisfaction levels increased significantly in all aspects compared to the initial period. The aspect with the most significant increase in mean score was "Confidence in use and troubleshooting" (Mean 4.4 equation 0.3 vs 4.0 equation 0.6; p < 0.001), followed by "Comparison of efficiency against the traditional continuous mode" (Mean 4.4 equation 0.4 vs 4.1 equation 0.6; p < 0.001) and "Satisfaction with device usage" (Mean 4.3 equation 0.4 vs 4.2 equation 0.6; p < 0.001).
Conclusion: The self-invented intermittent NPWT device was well accepted by registered nurses. Duration of use and experience are key factors that enhance confidence and satisfaction. These findings support the implementation of this innovation to improve patient care efficiency and reduce hospital costs.
