Development of Environmental Health Assessment Criteria for New Normal Tourism among Community-Based Tourism of Homestay Standards

Abstract

Mixed methodology research aimed to develop environmental health assessment criteria for new normal tourism among community-based tourism of homestay standards. The qualitative methods were used to synthesize expert ideas using the Delphi technique and quantitative methods for confirming assessment criteria and indicators. Samples were divided into 2 groups: 22 environmental health academicians to develop criteria using the Delphi technique and 400 tourists to analyze confirmatory factor analysis. Data collection instruments were structured interview forms and questionnaires. Content analysis were used to group the criteria and indicators from the Delphi first round. The Delphi second round data were analyzed with median and interquartile range. A first order confirmatory factor analysis was performed to confirm that the sub-indicators belonged to each assessment criteria.

Results from 2 rounds of Delphi technique and a first order confirmatory factor analysis indicated that environmental health assessment criteria for new normal tourism among community based tourism of homestay standards was consisted of 14 criteria including: accommodation (20 indicators), personal health of service employees (8 indicators), preventing the spread of infectious diseases (8 indicators), management of waste contaminated with secretions (9 indicators), new normal tourism management (7 indicators), food service (22 indicators), water service for drinking and use (13 indicators), solid waste management (11 indicators), public toilet management (25 indicators),  good building hygiene (9 indicators), first aid preparation (8 indicators), fire protection system (7 indicators), car/sidecar motorcycle tourism (6 indicators), and boat tourism (14 indicators).
