The satisfaction of Thai traditional remedies on using the herbal steamed

Abstract

Introduction: Herbal Steamed Sauna (HSS) is one of the health promotion methods in Thai Traditional Medicine (TTM) knowledge. However, there is still very limited information on the effectiveness and satisfaction of the different herbal regimes by the clients. Especially, the herbal used in the blood circulation that is related to the mobility in the human body according to the TTM belief.


Objective: To investigate the satisfaction of applying herbal remedies related to blood circulation based on the Thailand National List of Essential Medicine (NLEM) to use in HSS.


Materials and Methods: Three herbal remedies indexed in the NLEM were selected in this study; Theppajit, Tip O Soj, and Navakote remedies were applied to use as the HSS among 30 participants. The participants were assigned to take an HSS in each regime for 10-15 minutes for three times a day until the completion of three remedies. In addition, another 30 participants were recruited to be in the control group to take a steamed sauna without herbal remedies. Participants were rated on the satisfaction scores in a variety of satisfaction aspects after finishing the sauna in each remedy.


Results: The results showed that most of satisfaction scores in various aspects were not different, for example, smell and eyes irritation earned satisfaction level as satisfied and satisfied very much. Except for the Navakote remedy, that the score on pungent smell was significantly lower than the steam sauna (p<0.05). Also, the score on the good smell of the Navakote remedy was significantly lower than the other 2 herbal regimes and the steamed sauna (p<0.05).


Conclusion: In conclusion, the Tip O Soj remedy was the only remedy that obtained the overall satisfaction score that passed the satisfaction criteria. Hence, this regime was satisfied by participants to use in the HSS.
