Abstract

Background: Daily activities can be limited by osteoarthritis of knee.Joint replacement surgery is safe and beneficial for patients to resume their normal activities. Templating of preoperative X-rays is routinely performed before a total knee arthroplasty. Unfortunately there are difference between templating size and actual size. This study therefore aims to evaluate the accuracy of templating in primary total knee arthroplasty.
Objective: To study the accuracy of templating in primary total knee arthroplasty. Setting: Sisaket Hospital
Study design: Descriptive study
Methods: Retrospective study of 30 in-patient medical records who underwent primary total knee arthrop lasty by Stryker (Scopio NRG)’s knee implant in Sisaket Hospital during 1 October 2011 to 30 September 2013 were performed. Data analysis was presented by descriptive statistics of frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation.
Results: Accuracy of templating for femoral component in anteroposterior view was 50.0% and lateral view was 13.3%. Tibial component had accuracy of templating in anteroposterior view was 40.0% and 36.7% in lateral view. Femoral component had within one size error between templated size estimation and actual implant (90.0% in anteroposterior view and 63.3% in lateral view). There was no more than one size error of templated sizes estimation and the actual implan of tibial component in both anteroposterior and lateral view.
Conclusion: Accuracy of pre-operative of primary total knee arthroplasty estimation was 50% in femoral component and 40% in tibial component.
