An Evaluation of Delivery Room’s Nursing Practice Curriculum for Community Hospital in Sisaket Province

Abstract

Background: Delivery room’s nursing practice curriculum is an important curriculum on developing registered nurses for nursing care for mother and child. Due to this nursing practice curriculum, registered nurses have chance to review the knowledge and develop the knowledge and confidence for effective work.
Objective: To evaluate opinions of attendants who attended a delivery room’s nursing practice curriculum at Community Hospital, Sisaket in 4 sections including 1) context, 2) input, 3) process, and 4) products.
Methods: This study was designed to evaluate a delivery room’s nursing practice curriculum at community hospital, Sisaket by using CIPP model of Daniel L. Stufflebeam. The samples of the study were 32 registered nurses in delivery room at community hospital, Sisaket who volunteered to attend the 5 days training of a delivery room’s nursing practice curriculum during April 17, 2013 - May 30, 2013. The instruments of the study were 1) personal information, 2) assessment forms of attendants’ opinion Levels on the training, and 3) queries about knowledge before and after attending the training about nursing care for mother and fetus in every period of delivery, and 4) difficulties, problems, and suggestion. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistical methods which consist of number, percentage, means, standard deviations and an inferential statistical method which consists of Paired-Samples Test.
Results: Attendants had opinions on the training in terms of context, input, process, and products in level of strongly agree. In addition, after attending the training, attendants had knowledge in nursing care for mother and fetus in every period of delivery more than before attending the training at the 0.05 level of significance.
