Orthodontic Tooth Movement in Periodontally Treated Adult : A Case Report
Main Article Content
Abstract
Periodontal disease may cause pathologic tooth migration involving a single tooth or a group of teeth. The sequelae may be tipping and extrusion of one or several incisors, and development of a single diastema or multiple spacing of the front teeth. In such case orthodontic treatment may be required for cosmetic reasons to attain an aligned front tooth segment. This report presents orthodontic treatment of the adult patient who had moderate periodontitis. The chief complaint of this patient is the anterior protrusion and spacing. Prior to orthodontic treatment, patient had received periodontal treatment, including scaling, root planning, and instruction in oral hygiene. Active appliance therapy was not initiated until periodontal inflammation was eliminated and the patients showed a high level of oral hygiene.
