Abstract

Objective: To compare the sensitivity and specificity of 50 grams glucosechallenge test in pregnancy between fed state and fasting state.
Study design: Comparative study
Setting: Antenatal clinic. Amnajjarern hospital
Method: From June 2003 to May 2004. the pregnant women with high risk factors for gestational diabetes mellitus and gestational age between 24-28 weeks. The 80 high risk pregnant women were divided into 2 groups. Group 1 consisted of 40 cases with fed state before test. Group 2 consisted of 40 cases with fasting state before test.
Main outcome Measure: The value of sensitivity and specifiity of 50 grams glucose challenge test in pregnancy between fed state and fasting state.
Result: The sentivity and the specificity of the 50 grams glucose challenge test in fed state is 67% and 71% recpectively, in fasting state is 80% and 77% respectively. The differences in sensitivity and specificity of both conditions were statistically insignificant. (p=0.57 and 0.89 recpectively)
Conclusion: The 50 grams glucose challenge test could be tested, whethei pregnant woman was in fed or fasting state. Because both sensitivity and specificity were not statistically significant.
