The Study of Effective Nursing Practice Activities in The Operating Room : For Nursing Students at Khon Kaen University.

Abstract

Background: This study is the first phase of the Nursing Practice Activities in Operating Room. Curriculum Development for second year nursing students.
Objective: The study aimed to survey about nursing practice activities which have efficiency in Operating Room. The sample consist 1) Anesthetist Nurse 10 person 2) Scrub Nurse 10 person 3) Nursing Instructor 10 person 4) The second year nursing student 60 person and 5) The third year nursing student 60 person. All of the sample were in the faculty of medicine, Srinagarind hospital and faculty of nursing of Khon Kean University.
Study design: Survey research
Methods: They are completed a survey questionnaire on part1: Aseptic Technique: Anesthetic and Operating 20 activities, part2: pre-operation nursing care 5 activities, part3: intra-operation nursing care 5 activities, part4: post-operation nursing care 5 activities, part5: nursing records 5 activities. Using the descriptive statistics: frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation.
Results: There are 150 persons who complete questionnaire: Male 25, Female 125. Nursing practice activities need in Operating Room were 40 activities in 5 aspects: Anesthetic and Operating activities about Aseptic Technique 20 activities, Pre-operative nursing care 5 activities, Intra-operative nursing care 5 activities, Post-operative nursing care 5 activities and nursing records 5 activities. The expected score of the sample regarding the activities in 5 aspects were at a low level before practiced but they could have done at the highest level after practiced and the satisfaction score was at the highest level.
Conclusion: Nursing Practice Activities in Operating Room Curriculum Development for second year nursing students. There are many experiences for nurse students and save cost for buy simulation at least 8,000,000 Baht. Srinagarind hospital has an efficiency, especially OPERATING ROOM have enormous benefits. Then I will be development curriculum for practice in operating room for nursing students in Khon Kaen University in the next step.
